Our History

Dr. Zakir Hussain Teachers’ Training College, Laheriasari, Darbhanga was established in the name of Dr. Zakir Hussain, a renowned educationist, a great humanist, a distinguished exponent of composite cultures and a real secularist. His academic philosophy has always been a moving sprit in moulding this institution.
The college is situated at Laheriasarai, at a distance of 120 Km away from Patna by Road, 3 Km from L. N. Mithila University, Kameshwaranagar, Darbhanga headquarter, affiliating University of this College and 2 Km from Darbhanga Junction and quite adjacent to Darbhanga Medical College & Hospital.
The College runs under the Board of Trustees, Shafi Muslim High School, Laheriasrai, (estd 1933), a body duly registered with the Govt. of Bihar under Societies Registration Act. 1860. The Board at its meeting held on 02.06.1982 resolved to sponsor a Teachers’ Training College to cater the need of Teachers Training Programme from the session 1982-83. The College was open to trained the untrained graduates of the region for seeking employment and to provide post graduate degree in education.
The main aim for opening to this College was to produce human resource which could safely entrusted with the responsibility of teaching the students in Muslim Minority Institution in an atmosphere conducive to the healthy growth of character of the students in the light of the Cultural, Religious and Linguistic heritage of the Community so that they may be able to discharge their National Obligation.
The College was established as a Minority Institution under Art. 30(1) of the Constitution of India with respect to its management. Dr. Zakir Hussain Teachers’ Training College, Laheriasari, Darbhanga is duly recognized by the ERC, NCTE, Bhubneshwar and registered by UGC, New Delhi under 2(f) and permanently affiliated to L. N. Mithila University, Kameshwaranagar, Darbhanga
At present college imparts teaching in B. Ed. , M. Ed. and D. El. Ed. Progammes.

Late Dr. A. R. Kidwai, the then Governor of Bihar visited this College in 1983. Late Dr. Nagendra Jha, the then Education Minister, Govt. of Bihar blessed the institution in 1983.
Contributions in the field of Education
As per resolution of its Board of Trustees the College has been organizing regular Lecture Series on the subjects ‘Islamic Concept of Education’ since its inception. Apart from this the College has trained thousands of stake holders and prepare them for future teachers of the Society and Nation.
